Freeway X Manansala

by - October 20, 2011

Attended my second Freeway Art event last night at The Row, Glorietta 5 and I guess some of you already know how excited I was for this event, because not only is art close to my heart but it is through Freeway that I actually discover who some of our National Artists are, so when I found out that I've been invited to the sixth installment of the National Artist Collectors' series honoring Vicente Manansala, National Artist for Visual Arts, I didn't even have to think about my answer and immediately said, "YES!" to the invite. Who can resist  a fashion meets art event? I know I can't! :)

When Keigh, Angel and I got to Glorietta 5, I was surprised to see that there were live sketches being done by the Kunst Pilipino Group at the ground floor. I found it really cool and artsy! But too bad I wasn't able to join in on the fun because we were already 30 minutes late. :( Glad I got a photo though!

When we got up to where the registration, food and Freeway was, I saw these beautiful people...

I love how they both styled their Freeway x Manansala piece.

Since Freeway's launch of the Manansala collection was mainly to pay tribute to him, they made us watch an AVP about his life and when all of us heard that he courted his wife for 7 LONG YEARS, it made everyone go, "WHOAAAA!!" How I wish guys nowadays had that kind of patience and determination!:) I also learned a few quotable quotes from the man himself while watching the video and here's one that caught my heart...

"Art is a jealous thing. One must give time to it."-Manansala

I find that to be SO true. Without love, passion and dedication art cannot be created.

After the AVP it was time for my favorite part, the fashion show!:) Here we got to see the different paintings of Vincente Manansala transformed into classic and modern tailored dresses, woven shirt tops, sublimation print graphic tees, dresses and tote bags.

I think this has got to be my favorite Freeway Art collection. I practically covet almost every clothes that came out of stage! Love, love, love! Here's more...

I'm not quite sure if this is Mother and Child or Madonna of the Slums but from what I heard, they're one of his famous masterpiece. :)

In case you're wondering, Vincente Manansala is a well known Philippine cubist painter and illustrator, reinterpreted or indigenized cubism that's why if you notice, his paintings have a certain cube shape to it and he got his theme from familiar Filipino environments too. :)

After the fashion show, we got to meet and hear the interesting stories of Vincente Manansala from Maritess Mendoza-Pineda, President of Friends of Manansala Foundation, Cedie Lopez-Vargas of the The Lopez Museum and Ronna Manansala, granddaughter of Vicente Manansala.

It was a really awesome event and I enjoyed breathing in great fashion and paintings all in one event! Thank you so much to Mira, Hannah and Freeway for inviting me and the lovely tote bag! It was definitely worth attending because once again I learned something new. :)
