BBM x KEDS: The frustrated artist in me

by - December 20, 2011

I'm passionate about art. I know it seems vague but I really do love it. My course in college right now is far from what I am into, so whenever I get the time or even invited to something "Artsy" related, I definitely dive into it because it's not everyday that I get to do what I enjoy the most, so when I got invited by Nori and KEDS to their shoe painting workshop with CJ De Silva last Brown Bag Market, I went right ahead!:)

CJ De Silva x Keds

These are the masterpiece of talented artists, like Rio, Valerie Chua and CJ De Silva. Upon seeing these, I got really pressured in painting my own because look how awesome they are! My favorite would have to be CJ and Valerie's because of their dainty design. :)

Now that I already showed you the "masters" of shoe painting, I now bring you to our work place and my humble white sneakers from KEDS...

I wanted to do something abstract since I haven't really done any shoe painting before. But even that was the case, I had this feeling of hesitation to start, because first off, the sneakers are white and number two, I am so clueless on how to start. Fortunately, CJ De Silva was already there when I was pondering on my design and she gladly helped me start. :)

I thought I was going to paint my shoes alone but I surprised to know that my blogger friends, Melai and Ana were also going to attend the workshop. Watch the Picasso-Bloggers at work!

To paint your own sneakers, you will need the following...

ACRYLIC PAINT- so it doesn't come off easily on fabric
PENCIL- if you wanna sketch your design first before painting
ELECTRIC TAPE- to protect the lower part of your shoes ( see the black part of my sneakers)
and SHARPIE RUB-A-DUB LAUNDRY MARKER- in case you want to highlight parts that are hard to paint. :)

I wanted something really colorful and the funny part was, CJ De Silva was so overwhelmed with mine because it took a lot of work and time. Sorry na! haha!:))

Oh just a tip: I was told while I was painting that to concentrate on one color first before doing another color so that the paint won't get dry and end up getting wasted.

Melai, Ana and I sat together so it took longer to finish our shoes because we can't avoid the "chikahan" moments. =P But look at how happy we are!

Finally, the finished product! I think these took us about 2 hours? But it was worth it!:) New experience for us and a fun one at that. ;)
