Washi washi

by - February 04, 2013

The first time I ever encountered Washi Tapes was when I got emailed by the brand; HEY KESSY to do a collaboration/giveaway with them 2 years ago. I initially thought they were just some tapes with prints on them when I viewed them online. But when my package of Washi tapes came in the mail, I was surprised on how cute they look and the quality is superb. From then on, I fell in love and got so hooked with them. :)

For some of you guys who still don't know what Washi Tapes are exactly, here's a short description that I found online to explain better...

"Often called wasabi tape by mistake, washi tape does originate from Japan, so we can see how the two terms are easily confused! But, washi tape has nothing to do with the spicy condiment that you eat with your sushi. The best way we can describe washi tape is that it feels like masking tape — very, very pretty masking tape. It's made of paper, but is not as delicate as you would expect. Plus, it comes in patterns and designs that will make even the most dedicated crafters swoon and varying widths to allow you to create some fun and intricate washi tape designs.
Washi tape is typically made from natural fibers, such as bamboo or hemp, but most commonly from the bark of trees that are native to Japan — the mulberry, the mitsumata shrub or the gampi tree. Most washi tapes are strong (as strong as duct tape in some cases!) and functional as well as pretty, making them wonderful for both everyday and decorative use."

I already did some Washi Tapes crafts before HERE. HERE. HERE., but since I have a new planner and new tapes as well, I decided to do a blog post of both!

I often use Washi tapes to cover up my plain notebooks. I always try to find ways to incorporate them with my stuff, so I could add more flair to them. I like my stuff to be "artsy" looking. Hence, the half covered with tape planner. Aesthetics!;)

In case you're wondering, they don't come off easily when I use them to cover my notebooks. They actually stick-on pretty well.

Even inside my planner, you can spot Washi tapes. I just can't get enough! The reason why I also stick them in my planner is so that I have a reference on which ones I already have, so I know what other  designs I can pick the next time I buy. :)

You can do almost anything with these tapes. I recently found out that you can actually use them as nail decos/nail art: http://www.flickr.com/photos/pajammy/8395383966/ Super cool blogger and nail artist!

My 15 roles of Wasi Tapes...

Polka dots and solid colors

Stripes, multi-colored triangles, diamonds and plaid

lace border and owl
Photobucket
cloudy hearts, movie ticket and math homework

My current favorite out of the bunch is the "Math Homework" and "Movie Ticket." :) They look so real! It makes you wonder how they were able to turn something people dread so much (math) into something you'd find really cute!^_^

I can't wait to do more crafts or DIY out of these adorable tapes. :) I don't know if it's evident on how crazy I am about Washi tapes. But if you still don't notice, just refer to my blog motif. =P *wink*

A roll would usually cost Php 85 to Php 150. Depending on the design and you can get Washi tapes at HOBBY DEPOT or HEY KESSY. :)
