kiss the cook

It seemed like one of those family reunions when Mom, Tito and I each cooked a specialty for the family. We rarely get the opportunity to eat together as a family at the dinning table, so whenever Tita and Mom comes home they make it a point that we have this little gathering.

For tonight we cooked Risotto (Mom's speciality) but instead of her cooking it, she gave me the chance to cook it myself so that I could learn the basics of being a good housewife. :) I'm honestly not that into cooking, but given my situation now, learning how to cook is a must and when I did Risotto tonight I actually enjoyed it. I even detest it when Mom takes the cooking spoon from me, because I badly wanted to do it on my own! After so much muscle building stirring, adding of ingredients and guidance from Mom, I successfully managed to make my very first Mushroom Risotto---

All you need is:
  • 1 1/2 cups of ordinary rice
  • 1 stem of Leak
  • Onions
  • 2 cans of sliced mushrooms
  • Pepper
  • 4 cubes of chicken broth
  • Parmesan Cheese
  • White wine for cooking
  • 3/4 cups of whipping cream for cooking
Aside from Risotto, we had my Tito cook us some homemade baby steak. It was undoubtedly good that I wasn't able to catch another bite after my first one. As soon as I got to the dinner table to grab a second serving, there was none left. *sniff* :( But even though that's the case, we absolutely enjoyed our dinner. Simple yet the homey feel of our food was comforting.

Too bad Gersh wasn't able to taste my first ever, hard worked meal. No worries though as I'm looking forward to learn more from Mom while she's here and maybe consult her cook books for future cooking; Baking and sauteing!

Seeing that my Risotto was a hit tonight, the cliche of most Filipino family, "PUWEDE NA AKONG MAG-ASAWA!" =p that my cousins kept praising on me suddenly sank in and now I just can't wait for my next cooking exploit! Wish me luck! Hopefully I can share with you guys further how to really prepare and the process of cooking the food. Till my next cooking entry!;)
