My CrossFit experience

by - February 11, 2014

Being the skinny girl that I am, it has been quite difficult for me to fully grasp the true meaning of fitness. I've seen a lot of people through social media that have been joining and documenting their workout or fitness experience. But for me, I've always been the scaredy type when it comes to those things. I had the stereotype thought that if I did any fitness related stuff that I would surely loose weight and I DO NOT want to loose the little weight that I have left. I actually want to gain weight.

But since 2013 began, I have encountered a weight lost battle and my health hasn't been too good. So, I started taking vitamins and when 2014 started, I promised myself that this year, I would start entertaining the thought of joining fitness programs. Hence, my fitness year!

So when Beb Ana invited me to join her CrossFit Mad Minute/WOD trial, I immediately said 'YES!' :)

CrossFit isn't your typical workout. They train you using functional movements and as you can see, there are no mirrors or big machines like you see at the gym or studios. The place is big and spacey for you to do a lot of movements.

Before beginning our sweat session, Coach RJ taught us all about CrossFit and what it really is about, because normally people think that CrossFit's workout is incredibly intense and will make you automatically think that, "I'M GONNA DIE!!" But no! It's all about training our bodies for anything that we might encounter. The Goal is all about General Physical Preparedness for everyday tasks. They are also here to improve the following:

  • Strength
  • endurance
  • flexibility
  • stamina
  • speed
  • power
  • balance
  • coordination
  • agility
  • accuracy

Their method is constantly varied, so you don't get bored and it's high intensities. Don't be scared about that, because the high intensity is about what YOU can handle.

If you follow my Instagram, you would have seen the video glimpse that we did 5 rounds of Body Rows (which is what I'm doing above), Squats, 1 arm Kettlebell carry and Push-ups all done in the span of 8 minutes. There was a choice to do it in 6 minutes, but the daring girls Ana, Arnie and I were, we chose to do the longer one. Lubosin na natin diba?? Go for the gold! Haha!=P

I initially feared for our trial workout. We kept saying how nervous we were, but it turned out to be really fun! We learned so much. Like who would have known that workout actually needed proper posture? We had to maintain that the whole time we were doing drills. I'm trying to practice that a lot since I have bad posture. Errr... -_-

At the end of our workout, I could now say that I don't fear fitness or workouts anymore. Because there are workouts that won't make you thin, but actually build your muscles if you barely have any. Plus, it can tone your body and prepare you for whatever you have to face in your daily life.

I owe Beb Ana and CrossFit for opening my eyes to a healthier me!:) Thank you for vanquishing my fear! Now I can't wait to attend more fitness programs. ^_^ Yes to fitness!!! And now I can be ready for anything….even the Zombie apocalypse! Hehe!

If you wanna try it out for yourself, CrossFit offers FREE trials every Saturday at 3PM :) Aside from that, you can try their CrossFit 101, which is offered every month by batch for only Php 3,450 this March. Only 15 slots, so reserve while you still can!

  1. Yay! Congrats to a healthier you! I wanted to say fit but it doesn't sound grammatically correct. XD

I know how it feels like after the first day of doing cross fit. Everything hurts. Everything.
