Run For Your Wife

by - April 13, 2015

I've been watching a lot of plays from Repertory Philippines lately, but majority of them are musicals. I've only encountered two monologues and that second one I only watched last Friday with my Husband. :) We've been very fond of watching plays from Repertory and I don't know why we haven't done this sooner!

The play is wittingly titled 'Run For Your Wife' and I really recommend that you watch this with your spouse or partner in life like I did. ^_^

As part of its 2015 line up, Repertory Philippines launches RUN FOR YOUR WIFE, a sexy comedy written by Ray Cooney. Since its launch in 1983 at London's Wesy End, it had a successful nine year run in the UK. After that, the show has been staged most notably in New York, Paris, Stockholm, and Manila.

RUN FOR YOUR WIFE trails John Smith, a taxi driver in London who has two wives: one in Streatham and another in Wimbledon. After he gets mugged and winds up in the hospital, the police department from each district calls Mrs. Smith: Mary Smith and Barbara Smith.

From there, the story takes a hilarious turn and if you're into British humor, you'd really enjoy this one. The complex choreography and impeccable timing also deserves nothing but praises! If I could watch this play again, I would!:)

"Even if it's an old play, it's such a funny and well-written play. Let's just have a good time laughing because it's better to laugh than to feel angry or sad. Humor as they say is the best medicine, right?"- Miguel Faustmann, Director

Cast: Jamie Wilson (John Smith) | Jeremy Domingo (Stanley Gardner)  | Goldie Soon (Mary Smith) | Mikkie Bradshaw (Barbara Smith) | Steven Conde (Bobby Franklin) | James Stacey (Det. Sgt. Troughton) | Paul Holme ( Det. Insp. Porterhouse) | Mara Celine Javier (Newspaper Reporter)

The humor is distinctly British, but the cast and director believe that the premise of having two wives is a universal concept.

"It's not accepted here but it's done. Remember the humor in it, not the taboo. RUN FOR YOUR WIFE shows the humor of this ridiculous situation. You could put the same situation, take all the humor out of it and be a heavy drama like a typical Filipino teleserye. But nobody has shown the humor in it. And this is what it's showing."-Jamie Wilson

I highly recommend that you watch this play. It's something that you will surely enjoy and it's a far different experience from watching a movie at the cinema. Try it if you haven't. :)

RUN FOR YOUR WIFE will be staged from April 10 to May 3, 2015 at the Onstage Theater in Greenbelt 1, Makati City. Ticket prices ranges from Php 400 to Php 600.
