New releases from Uniqlo this March 2021: Haruki Murakami and Paul & Joe

by - March 16, 2021

As a brand that we have come to love over the years, Uniqlo has always given us new collaborations to look forward to when it comes to artists and designers. This month of March is no different as they'll be launching new UT collections from popular author Haruki Murakami and Parisian brand Paul & Joe.

More about each collection and a glimpse of it below...

The world of Murakami comes to UT through illustrations from his novels and radio program

Haruki Murakami has a huge collection of T-shirts stacked in cardboard boxes and has written about his favorite T-shirts and the stories behind them. This collaboration takes inspiration from the memorable phrases and striking cover designs of six of his novels that have been particularly praised in Japan and around the world (Pinball 1973Norwegian WoodDance Dance DanceSputnik SweetheartKafka on the Shore, and 1Q84) and incorporates the designs into T-shirts. The lineup also includes designs with illustrations of the cat featured on Murakami Radio, the music program that Murakami himself produces and hosts, and other items reflecting his unique sensibility.

This collaboration with UNIQLO came about because their commitment to offering everyday clothing matches my desire to create apparel that finds favor with everyone. I also sympathized with the company's approach to manufacturing, which pursues quality” commented Paul & Joe founder, Sophie Mechaly. “For this collection, I want people to coordinate items as they like, whether that’s by mixing plain and patterned pieces or matching patterns. I want to share the joys of spring.

The lineup features items in soft pastels with such motifs as chrysanthemums, characteristic of the Paul & Joe brand, and Lily of the Valley, a flower believed to bring happiness. It also presents bold designs of the brand’s iconic cats. Supplementing the UTs are such wardrobe essentials as dresses, blouses, scarves, and pochettes. There are also items for kids and babies for matching with mothers’ outfits.
