I'm seeing spots!

by - July 16, 2013

Being that my blog is Artsy Fartsy Ava and I am personally into art, I really get excited when I get invited to events that are art related. :) It pumps me up so much that I don't even have to think about the about the answer for a second anymore, because obviously, it's a big fat YES!:) And it goes without saying that it was an honour for me to be one of the first few people from the media to witness the opening of the I Love Kusama exhibition at the Ayala Museum, where works of the most influential figures of the avant-garde scene, Yayoi Kusama is featured.

The leading collectors of Kusama is Mr. Lito and Ms. Kim Camacho. Their amazing collection is certainly a treasure trove that you would surely delight in. Especially if you're a lover of polka-dots, tentacles and pumpkins. ;) Simply breath taking and you could tell how much they adore Yayoi Kusama based on their themed outfits. :)

I'm a big fan of abstract art since I love doing it myself, so this was just an amazing experience for me.  She was actually forbidden to do art by her parent, but despite that she didn't give up and still pursued it. To see the work of an international/environmental artist like her is inspiring.

Another one of my favourites. :) I heard  this was made out of magazine pieces. :)

Yayoi Kusama was born in Japan on 1929 and is credited to be an important precursor of various art movements which took shape between the 1950s and 60s, namely Minimalism, Feminism and Pop Art. She remains active and relevant at the age of 84.

Her works have been featured in institutions like the Whitney Museum of American Art and Tate Modern, and her iconic spotted pumpkin sculptures seen on both indoor and outdoor exhibitions in different countries. In 2011, Kusama also worked with fashion designer Marc Jacobs for a line of whimsical products and corresponding window displays for Louis Vuitton.

Above is the actual artwork and the LV bags that Marc Jacobs worked on for the Kusama LV collection. :) I am digging the red version. If only artwork in this form were free! hehe. :)
I find that Yayoi Kusama has a thing for repetitive designs, but they're definitely not tiring to look it. It actually lures you in more. Plus, I love how she uses colours.

Pumpkins!

Thank you so much to Ayala Museum for inviting me to this awesome exhibit and indeed as the exhibit is called, I am now absolutely in love with Yayoi Kusama's work and can't get enough of her after seeing her art. I don't mind seeing so many polka dots if its as pretty as hers. :)

The exhibition will be on view until 1 September, 2013. As part of its education component, Ayala Museum has invited Akira Tatehata, one of the world’s leading experts on Kusama and the curator the Japanese Pavilion during the 45th Venice Biennale in 1993 (when Kusama represented the country) for a one-time lecture on 10 August, 2013 at 4PM, Ayala Museum Ground Floor Lobby.
